PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device which can easily adjust control operation. SOLUTION: In adjusting operation, a control means 8 performs an adjusting program with an adjustment start signal input via an external-signal input section 6; and controls a lighting circuit 3 so that electric characteristics measured by an electric characteristics measurement apparatus 19 attains a predetermined value. Subsequently, when the electric characteristics measurement apparatus 19 detects the predetermined value, an adjustment termination signal is input via the external-signal input section 6, at that time, the control means 8 stores control factors K1, K2 controlling the lighting circuit 3, into a memory means 7. In normal operation, the control means 8 reads out the control factors K1, K2 from the memory means 7 so as to control the lighting circuit 3 with a normal operation program.
