PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens barrel capable of performing suitable photographing and an optical instrument. SOLUTION: The lens barrel includes: an optical system (4) through which light passes; a cylindrical member (2a) which covers at least part of the optical system (4); and a sensor (5) which has an extension extending from the first position of the outer surface of the cylindrical member (2a) to a second position different from the first position and detects the position of a part touched by a photographer between the first position and the second position.
