PURPOSE: A composition containing dibenzo-p-dioxin derivative as an active ingredient is provided to suppress NF-kB and AP-1 activation and relieve degenerative arthritis and rherumatic arthritis without side effects or skin irritation. CONSTITUTION: A composition for treating arthritis contains 0.2-2 weight% of dibenzo-p-dioxin derivative of one chemical formula of chemical formulas 1 to 10. In chemical formulas 1-10, R is independently hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, C2-C10 alkenyl, phenyl, hydroxyphenyl, dihydroxyphenyl, phenyl-C1-C4 alkyl or R'(C=O) and R' is C1-C4 alkyl or C2-C20 alkenyl. The dibenzo-p-dioxin derivative is extracted from sea algae. The composition is used in the form of ointment, lotion, cream, gel, skin emulsion, skin suspension, and patch.
