1. A porous, composite hone graft implant comprising:
a first component comprising a conformable, porous matrix including a plurality of randomly oriented, overlapping bioactive glass fibers, and bioactive glass particulates distributed throughout the fibers to increase compression resistance and provide structural support to the matrix; and a second component comprising an allograft material; the fibers of the first component being freely movable with respect to one another at at least some of their intersections; wherein at least some of the bioactive glass fibers and bioactive glass particulates together are at east partially encased in a bioactive glass shell to form an encased fibrous cluster; and further wherein the composite implant comprises a pore size distribution including pores characterized by pore diameters ranging from about 100 nanometer to about 1 millimeter. |
