A light pipe 1 in the form of a bar or tube of thermosetting plastic is mounted to a light source 7 such as a LED within a glass bulb 4. The light pipe 1 has coloured lines 3 extending along and within it. When illuminated by the light source, the light pipe 1 acts as a means for dissipating light, providing the desirable effect of a traditional filament or incandescent bulb without the high temperatures and low energy efficiency associated with such a light source. A screw or bayonet fitting 6 allows it to be retrofitted into existing lighting units, providing backwards compatibility with existing lighting installations. The LED light source is connected to a heat sink 9 and driver unit 10. |
