To splice a yarn (3) at the fiber collection surface of an open-end spinner (2), a yarn end is moved into the suction flow of the spinner to form a yarn surplus at a yarn length which is retained by the yarn store (7). The yarn retention is released at an initial point in time and, at a second time point, the yarn is released for insertion into the spinner. At a third point in time the set yarn length is advanced by a variable length as required. The three time points are set in relation to each other so that the yarn movement in a variable length after the third time point is ended, at the latest, when the yarn supply in the store is exhausted. A control (11) determines the movements of the yarn holders (4,5). |
