The bogie has a transverse bolster 24 with its respective ends 30 supported on respective side frames 26 by respective spring groups 76-100. Respective friction damper groups work between the respective bolster ends and the side frames, each group having laterally spaced dampers 64, 68, each having a friction surface slidable against a corresponding wear plate during bolster movement relative to the side frames and having static and dynamic friction coefficients within 20% of each other, preferably substantially the same. The coefficient ranges can be 0.10 to 0.45, preferably 0.20 to 0.35. The dampers 64, 68 can be wedges. Each spring group comprise at least four springs 76, 78, 78, 80 in a quadrangular arrangement, the dampers 64, 68 being mounted over two of these springs. The bogie can have self steering capability. The bolster can move laterally to the side frames within limits provided by inner and outer gibs. |
