<p>A method and means for facilitating the handling of filter media in the form of individual filter elements (Fig 1) as utilised for aerobic treatment of waste waters involving relatively locating a plurality of individual aerobic filter elements within at least one secondary enclosure 10 and locating the at least one secondary enclosure and its contents within a primary treatment container 11. Preferably the individual filter elements have a construction including a central body (1, Fig 1) mounting a plurality of additional surfaces (2, Fig 1) serving to provide a greatly increased surface area as compared with a central body of the same size but not having additional surfaces. Preferably the additional surfaces are formed by surfaces such as fins laterally or radially extending from the central body. Each fin may have a stepwise or serrated formation at its free edge.</p> |
