PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and thin coil and a method for obtaining the coil through comparatively simple method as well as a small and thin inductor employing the coil. SOLUTION: A columnar body 1 consisting of a belt-type metal foil wound so as to have the shape of a roll is sliced to obtain a sectional surface 2 orthogonal to the central axis of the columnar body 1 to obtain a coil 3 having the flat-plate spiral shape. Insulation between conductors can be secured by arranging an insulating layer on the surface of the belt-type metal foil previously. On the other hand, the thin inductor can be obtained by arranging a magnetic body around the coil 3, while the inductor can also be obtained by connecting a plurality of the coils 3 to form one set of double-layer coil. Further, a flat-plate coil having the same spiral constitution as described before can also be obtained by separating between conductors after winding the belt-type body, on which a plurality of linear conductors are adhered in parallel to the surface of a film, after winding a belt-type body with a plurality of linear conductors adhered to the surface of the film in parallel so as to have the shape of a roll so that its winding axis becomes orthogonal to the direction of the conductors.
