The frame (1) is raised and lowered vertically and supports synchronously movable pick-up elements placed against the sides of the load. At least three guides (4) arranged in a star formation on a centre of the frame each have pick-up elements (3) on at least two vertically spaced apart planes. Each guide consists of a movable guide sleeve (5) supported on the frame and containing a telescopic tube (6) connected to the pick-up elements. A coaxial rotating threaded spindle (7) fits into an internally threaded tube. A bevel wheel (8) sits on the free ends of the threaded spindles and engage with a motor-driven bevel wheel (10) in the centre.
