<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a working method capable of preventing swarf from welding to a surface to be worked or a cutting edge in working various kinds of metallic materials, especially an iron-based metallic material by a diamond tool so as to exhibit inherent features of the diamond tool such as a long service life and precision machining. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The diamond tool has the cutting edge formed on insulative diamond. A current voltage generator is connected respectively with a material to be worked and the diamond tool. A positive electrode is connected with the diamond tool, and a negative electrode is connected with the material, and the material is worked while voltage is applied, wherein the voltage ranges 0 to 20 V (except zero).
