<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique of accurately detecting wear of both electrodes on a rod side and an arm side by making simultaneous processing of polishing operation and electrode wear detection possible and reducing operation loss of a weld line while maintaining quality of electrode polishing. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A dresser 4 is put in an operating state, a movable side electrode 13 is pressed to a dress blade 21 for shaping and polishing, and first dress position information of the movable side electrode 13 is acquired upon completion of polishing. A fixed side electrode 12 is pressed to the dress blade 21 for shaping and polishing, and second dress position information of the fixed side electrode 12 is acquired upon completion of polishing. The wear quantity X of the movable side electrode 13 is calculated from a difference between the first reference dress position information which is acquired in advance and the first dress position information which is acquired this time. Then, the wear quantity Y of the fixed side electrode 12 is calculated from a difference between the second reference dress position information which is acquired in advance and the second dress position information which is acquired this time.
