An image forming apparatus includes: a latent image forming unit that forms a latent image on a latent image bearer with light from a light source; and a correction data generating unit that includes: an acquiring unit that acquires, for each position, a correction value of an intensity of the light source to equalize a density distribution of a latent image; a quantizing unit that generates a correction data for each position by quantizing a correction value for each position; and an excessive correction suppressing unit that outputs the correction data after reducing an amount of change from an immediately preceding latent image formation position, with respect to a position at which an absolute value of a restored value indicating a correction amount and generated based on the correction data exceeds an absolute value of the correction value. |

1. An image forming apparatus comprising:
a latent image bearer; a latent image forming unit that includes a light source that emits light with intensity corresponding to image data, and forms a latent image on the latent image bearer with the light from the light source; a correction data generating unit that generates correction data of an intensity of the light source for each position on the latent image bearer; and a correcting unit that corrects the intensity of the light source by a correction amount based on the correction data when the latent image forming unit forms a latent image, wherein the correction data generating unit includes:
an acquiring unit that acquires, for each position, a correction value of an intensity of the light source to equalize a density distribution of a latent image;a quantizing unit that generates the correction data for each position by quantizing the correction value for each position;a restoring unit that generates a restored value indicating the correction amount based on the correction data; andan excessive correction suppressing unit that outputs the correction data after reducing an amount of change from an immediately preceding latent image formation position, with respect to a position at which an absolute value of the restored value exceeds an absolute value of the correction value. |
