597829 Disclosed herein is a multilayer film comprising at least a tri-Iayer structure, said tri-Iayer structure being made up of a core polymer layer interposed between two covering polymer layers that each comprise polyethylene, wherein the core polymer layer comprises a melt blend of polyethylene, thermoplastic starch, and ethylene acrylic acid copolymer. Preferably, wherein the core polymer layer comprises polyethylene in an amount ranging from about 5 wt% to about 85 wt%, ethylene acrylic acid copolymer in an amount ranging from about 2 wt% to about 25 wt%, and TPS in an amount ranging from about 10 wt% to about 80 wt% and the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer is present in an amount ranging from about 0.2 wt% to about 2 wt%, relative to the other components present in the layer. Additionally, wherein the core polymer layer further comprises polyolefin wax. present in an amount ranging from about 0.2 wt% to about 2 wt%, relative to the other components present in the core polymer layer. Additionally disclosed is a process for producing a multilayer film comprising at least a tri-Iayer structure, the process comprising forming the tri-Iayer structure by co-extruding a core polymer layer interposed between two covering polymer layers that each comprise polyethylene, wherein the core polymer layer comprises a melt blend of polyethylene, thermoplastic starch, and ethylene acrylic acid copolymer. |
