PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toroidal type continuously variable transmission having simplified construction as a whole device and improved operability. SOLUTION: The toroidal type continuously variable transmission comprises an input disc 3 having a concave raceway surface 3b on the side face, an output disc 12 having a concave raceway surface 12b opposed to the raceway surface 3b of the input disc 3, a plurality of rollers 14 arranged in a toroidal gap formed between the raceway surfaces of the input disc 3 and the output disc 12, a plurality of carriages 16 arranged at equal spaces around a rotating shaft 2 of the input disc 3, a base part non-rotatably arranged coaxially with the rotating shaft 2 of the input disc 3, link bodies rockingly connected at their centers to the base part and rockingly connected at both ends to the carriages 16, and a piston mechanism connected to one of the plurality of carriages 16 for moving the carriage 16.
