<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely guarantee safety of an image forming apparatus in transmitting data. <P>SOLUTION: In a printer 7, security status information indicating the operating state of each security function is stored. When a user inputs the network address 768 of a print server 3 and user information to the printer 7, the printer 7 accesses the print server 3 to transmit a security certificate issued by an authentication server 5, the security status information, and the user information. The print server 3 determines on the basis of the received security status information whether or not the operating state of each security function satisfies a prescribed condition.
