<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera image recording device capable of stably recording a camera image; and a camera image recording method. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This camera image recording device includes: an encoding means 11 to subject an image signal from a solid-state imaging element 10 to signal processing to be encoded; a first recording medium 12 for recording the encoded image information; a housing means to extractably house a second recording medium 13 for recording the encoded image information; a detection means 14 to detect the presence of the second recording medium 13 in the housing means; and a recording control means 15 to record the encoded image information only in the first recording medium 12 for a predetermined time when the second recording medium is not present as the detection result of the detection means 14, and record the encoded image information in the second recording medium 13 when present.
