The invention relates to a portable data carrier (3) comprising at least one processor (15), a memory (13), an interface unit (14) and an address generator (16) which generates at least part of an individual address (S12, S13; S22a), by means of which the data carrier (3) can be unambiguously addressed (S17; S24a; S26b, S26c) by a write device (2) that is connected to the data carrier (3) via the interface unit (14) in order to write data (6) to the memory (13). Pairs of generated individual addresses differ from other individual addresses that are generated for other data carriers (3) simultaneously connected to the write device (2).
