PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorbing vehicle which precedes a train, and can absorb and weaken the shock due to a collision in two stages. SOLUTION: The shock absorbing vehicle 1 is connected to at least the front end of the front end and the rear end of the train running on rails 40a, 40b, and absorbs the shock transmitted to the train in the case of the collision, and comprises a car body to run on the rails, elastic bodies 3a, 3b provided on at least the leading side of the collision among the front end and the rear end of the car body, and shock absorbing units 4a,..., 4d having an air damper 2a for absorbing the shock transmitted from the elastic bodies by the compression of air and the discharge of the compressed air.
