PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner capable of efficiently eliminating dust of an air filter without waste. SOLUTION: The air conditioner comprises a fan motor (not shown in the figure) for rotationally driving a fan (not shown in the figure) for allowing air to pass through a heat exchanger (not shown in the figure); a suction nozzle 13 reciprocated along the air filter 2 collecting dust in the air passing through the heat exchanger, and sucking the dust; and a suction device 14 connected to the suction nozzle 13, wherein the suction nozzle 14 is reciprocated at the stop of body operation to clean the whole surface of the air filter 2, and the frequency of reciprocating motion of the suction nozzle 13 in one cleaning is determined according to an accumulated operation time from the preceding cleaning time of the fan motor. For instance, when the accumulated operation time of the fan motor is long and there is much dust on the air filter 2, the frequency of reciprocating motion is increased, and when the accumulated operation time of the fan motor is short and there is little dust, the frequency of reciprocating motion is reduced to efficiently clean the air filter without waste.
