PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a human body detector capable of detecting the position and the conditions of the human body, using a single sensor. SOLUTION: This human body detector is provided with the sensor 11 for outputting a signal of a level, in response to a distance to the human body; an advance and retraction detecting part 3 for detecting the motion of the human body at a first position, by comparing an output signal from the sensor 11 with a prescribed level of the signal, in response to the motion of the human body in the first position having a prescribed distance from the sensor 11; and a seating detecting part 2 for detecting the presence of the human body in the second position, by comparing the output signal from the sensor 11 at a prescribed level of signal, in response to a motion of the human body in a second position that is nearer to the sensor 11 than the first position. The advance and retraction detecting part 3 detects the approach of the human body to the sensor 11, after passing through the first position from a point more distant from the first position, and detects that the human body has separated to a distant side while passing over the first position, when detecting the separation from the second position, after the seating detecting part 2 detects the arrival of the human body to the second position.
