The invention relates to a method for operating a fuel cell system comprising at least one stack of fuel cells. According to said method, by adjusting the volume flows of fuel and oxidant, the water formed in the at least one fuel cell stack and/or the water contained in the reactants is always discharged in an essentially gaseous form. The invention also relates to a fuel cell system suitable for said method, and a computer program product for carrying out said method.
