A plasma display panel is provided to prevent the deterioration of contrast characteristics and to prevent degradation of images by preventing generation of discharge in a dummy area. A first electrode(102) and a second electrode(103) are arranged in parallel to each other on a front substrate(101). A rear substrate(111) is disposed opposite to the front substrate. A barrier rib(112) is formed to define active discharge cells in an active area for displaying an image between the front substrate and the rear substrate, and to define dummy discharge cells in a dummy area arranged at the outside of the active area. The dummy area is arranged in the outside of the active area. The dummy discharge cells have a traveling path different from the traveling path of the active discharge cells.
