PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning sonar determining an optimum extraction domain (position, size) even in a situation where the size and velocity of a target such as a fish shoal change every moment or errors are found between estimated values and observed images, as to an automatic follow-up scanning sonar. SOLUTION: The optimum extraction domain (position, size) for the target is determined by putting to comparison/analysis changes in the apparent size of the target such as a fish shoal, a change in acceleration, errors (differences) between estimated values and measured values, etc., including data corresponding to a plurality of frames in the past.
