PURPOSE: A mounter for a surface mounting device is provided to be capable of mounting, re-mounting and dismounting by one apparatus and to shift a device vertically exactly by measuring the height of the device using a laser sensor. CONSTITUTION: A mounter for a surface mounting device comprises a laser sensor(80) which measures the position of a surface mounting device(40) that is socked by a vacuum bit(38) according to generation of vacuum pressure of a vacuum nozzle(36). The measured value is sent to a programmable logic controller(PLC)(82) so as to memory the position. A load cell(39) sets allowable pressure of the surface mounting device(40) and the vacuum bit(38) to "0", and checks the pressure after being contacted with a printed circuit board(42) installed at an XY transfer part to then compare the measured value with a set value. The compared value is sent to the PLC(82), which re-sends the sent value to a servo motor(32) so as to go up and come down the socked surface mounting device(40).
