PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely control the self-ignition timing, securing a nitrogen oxide reducing effect by compression self-ignition combustion. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a direct injection type fuel injection device 8 and an ignition plug 9. By performing a first fuel injection for a period till the first half of a compression stroke, and sparking and igniting air-fuel mixture formed by the fuel injection, combustion of a first stage is performed. Subsequently, a second fuel injection is performed to burn the injection fuel. By making residual fuel perform self-ignition due to a rise in temperature within a combustion chamber by the combustion, combustion of a second stage is performed. In this case, an injection timing for the second fuel injection is controlled according to the rise speed of the combustion pressure in the combustion of the first stage. |
