PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a press apparatus realizing the uniform transfer of a pattern without being affected by the thickness irregularity of the material held between an upper mold and a lower mold. SOLUTION: The upper mold 160 and the vacuum frame 161 opposed to the lower mold 130 and the core 131, both of which are placed on the lower platen 120 raised and lowered by a mold clamping hydraulic mechanism 180, are supported on an upper platen 140 through a freely tiltable thrust spherical surface bearing mechanism 150. When the lower mold 130 is raised to bring the core 131 into close contact with the vacuum frame 161, the upper mold 160, which supports the vacuum frame 161, is tilted so as to follow the thickness irregularity of a material plate 200 by the thrust spherical surface bearing mechanism 150 even if there is irregularity in the thickness of the material plate 200 placed on the core 131. Accordingly, the core 131 and the material plate 200 can be uniformly pressed between the upper mold 160 and the lower mold 130 and the optical pattern of the core 131 is uniformly transferred to the material plate 200 to manufacture a light guide plate or the like free from transfer failure or burr.
