Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) type polyesters are low in absolute molecular weight and melt viscosity, have a narrow molecular-weight distribution, and hence are difficult to be molded by molding techniques applicable to polyolefins. These polyesters as a general plastic consequently have limited applications developed. Provided is a process for producing a polyethylene terephthalate graft copolymer resin, characterized by evenly reacting, at a temperature of 250°C or higher, a mixture comprising (A) 100 parts by weight of a polyethylene terephthalate type polyester as the main material, (B) 0.01-2 parts by weight of a high-molecular polyfunctional epoxy compound having 7-100 epoxy groups per molecule and having a molecular weight of 1,000-300,000 as a binder, (C) 0.01-1 part by weight of a metal salt of an organic acid as a bonding reaction catalyst, and (D) 0-100 parts by weight of an aralicylic polyester and/or araliphatic polyester having a carboxy group on the aromatic nucleus as a minor material to thereby impart a high melt viscosity to the polyester. |
