A dental wedge (10) is provided having a generally longitudinally extending planar wall (20) defining a longitudinal axis and a vertical axis, the planar wall (20) having a front surface (32) and a back surface (34) and generally defines an upper edge (22) and a lower edge (24), the front surface (32) of the planar wall (20) having a concave curve extending along the longitudinal axis of the planar wall (20), the front surface (32) of the planar wall (20) generally defining a restorative tooth side (12), and a planar flange (36) extends from the back surface (34) of the planar wall (20) at a location between the upper edge (22) and the lower edge (24), the planar flange (36) extending generally in a longitudinal direction along the back surface (34), the planar flange (36) includes an edge (38) which forms a shape similar to a wave, with a trough (52) of the wave (50) located about the vertical axis and two crests (48) formed on either side of the trough (52), whereby the back surface (34) of the planar wall (20) and the planar flange (36) form an adjacent tooth side (14) and the dental wedge is substantially symmetrical about the vertical axis and a whereby a horizontal plane extending tangentially at the edge (38) of the planar flange (36) and at the lower edge (24) of the planar wall (20) places the planar wall (20) in an inclined angle extending upward and inward. |
