PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which prevents light of a light source for reading a document from being received as disturbance light by a document detection sensor. SOLUTION: The image reader includes: a document carrying part B for carrying a document toward a read position P1 in order to read a document image; an image reading part 3 for reading the image of the document carried to the read position P1 in order from its carried front end side; a transparent contact glass 3e which is provided in the read position P1 and has a front side functioning as a document carrying face and has the image reading part 3 disposed on a backside thereof; and a document detection sensor 52 which is placed upstream of the read position P1 and uses infrared light to detect the front end of the carried document. At least one of the surface side and the backside of the transparent contact glass 3e is subjected to surface treatment for cutting infrared light. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
