In a device for manually reversing a device for protecting passengers in a head-on collision in a motor vehicle, two hinges (3) are generally fixed in a rotationally displaceable manner for body-sided coupling of the front bonnet of the motor vehicle in the windscreen side area to a hinge carrier (2) which can be adjusted on the protection device to a predetermined lift, said device comprising a spring-loaded cylinder which is connected to a sensor controlled releasable retaining device. According to the invention, a solidly mounted, instantaneous traction bar (5, 8, 9) can be extracted to a predetermined length and is coupled in a rotationally displaceable manner to the front bonnet in the hinge area and to the solid body such that, in order to achieve a predetermined opening angle of the front bonnet of the traction bar (5, 8, 9), the maximum extraction length is achieved and when the front bonnet is opened further the coupling point of the traction bar, a new point of rotation is formed for the front bonnet on the front bonnet, and, using the front bonnet as a two-armed lever using a manual force on the front long lever and producing an active force on the hinge-sided short lever arm, a mounted hinge carrier (2) and, thereby, the released protection device (1, la), can be reversed in order to reverse the adjusted hinge carrier (2) and the front bonnet lifted on the hinge side.
