PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drive a tool electrode having a wide width size by a comparatively small-sized linear motor and drive the tool electrode even by a rotary servo motor as needed. SOLUTION: The diesinking electric discharge machine is provided with a quill 3 mounting the tool electrode so as to relatively move by the linear motor in a Z axis direction with respect to a ram 1F, and to allow a slider 6 to move in the Z axis direction by rotating a ball screw by the rotary servo motor 5 fixed to the ram 1F. The connection and separation of the slider 6 and the quill 3 are made by a hydraulic cylinder 81 of a connection/separation device 8.
