A discharge lamp is provided to use glass tube material for a conventional arc tube structure by forming a base portion side flange portion to have a diameter smaller than that of a base portion. In an anode, a heat conductive member is airtightly enclosed inside a sealing space which is formed by fitting a lid portion(40) and a base portion to weld them. The base portion is a cylinder having an opening(21) on an end surface of a base end portion, an interior space, and a bottom portion. A base portion side flange portion(24) has a base portion side flat portion(23) extending in a diameter direction, and a base portion side slope portion(26) continuously formed from the perimeter edge of the base portion side flat portion.
