PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fruit and vegetable inspection apparatus capable of achieving space saving and illuminating fruit and vegetables of substantially spherical shape uniformly without mottle. SOLUTION: When fruit and vegetables A conveyed to inspection positions a, b and c of conveyers 2a, 2c and 2b are photographed, with the arrival timing of the fruit and vegetables A conveyed to inspection positions a, b and c, lighting units 6c-6f arranged above parts between the conveyers 2a, 2b and 2b are shared and lighted. The fruit and vegetables A conveyed to inspection positions a, b and c are illuminated by the illumination light projected from the lighting units 6a-6h. The fruit and vegetables A illuminated by the illumination light are photographed by photographing cameras 4a, 4b and 4c arranged just above the inspection positions a, b and c, and the quality of the fruit and vegetables A is detected based on the photographing result.
