<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control an image generation part to generate a color image allocated with color pixels based on a display gain and movement information obtained from a reception signal, and to set an optimum gain. <P>SOLUTION: This ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus includes a movement information acquisition part, the image generation part, an index calculation part, a gain selection part, and a control part. The movement information acquisition part obtains the movement information by correcting the reception signal received by an ultrasonic probe by a gain. The image generation part performs processing to generate the color image allocated with the color pixels based on the movement information. The index calculation part obtains an index value indicating the distribution of the color pixels based on a plurality of color images. The gain selection part selects the display gain based on the comparison of the index values obtained about a plurality of gains.
