PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a micrometer which can be used to quickly drive a spindle to a desired position, and which is easily operable and has stable high rigidity.SOLUTION: The micrometer provides a quick adjustment mode and a fine adjustment mode. A spline-like rotary coupling configuration, as for rotation, restrains a micrometer thimble and a screw element so as to move together, and does not restrain the relative position of the screw element to the thimble along a measurement axis. A toothed wheel in a micrometer frame includes a gear tooth that engages with the screw element and rolls on it in a measurement direction. A lock configuration, when unlocked, allows the engaged toothed wheel to be rotated by a user in the quick adjustment mode so as to drive the screw element along the measurement axis. The lock configuration, when locked, obstructs the movement of the toothed wheel so as to provide the fine adjustment mode. In the fine adjustment mode, a user rotates the thimble so as to screw it into the screw element via the engaged tooth of the toothed wheel in order to adjust the spindle position.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
