TRACHEOSTOMY TUBES AND THEIR MANUFACTURE

The shaft (1) of a tracheostomy tube is made in two sections (10) and (11) joined end to end to complete the shaft. The patient end section (11) is curved and may be made of a softer plastics than the machine end section (10), which is straight. The rear, machine end (13) of the patient end section (11) is formed with a collar (14) of reduced thickness and the forward patient end (12) of the machine end section (10) is moulded about this. The collar (14') may have apertures (140) through it so that the material of the machine end section (10) flows through the apertures and keys the two sections together. A set of tubes (60A, 60B and 60C) of different lengths can be made from the same curved patient end sections (61) and from straight machine end sections (62A) to (62C) of different lengths.
