PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carbonize a carbonization material by dry distillation and to make a part of the carbonized material into a combustion heat source. SOLUTION: This method for charcoal production is characterized in that the carbonization material is moved from one side to the other in a treatment tunnel, successively treated and carbonized; the carbonization material is packed into a container; the container is placed on a truck; the truck is entered into a preheating furnace, preheated, entered into a heating furnace and heated; the truck is preheated at 250 deg.C to 400 deg.C in a preheating chamber; a carbonization gas and tar are taken out; the carbonization material is heated at 700 deg.C to 1,000 deg.C by the heating furnace, carbonized; the truck is sent to a cooling chamber, cooled by circulating a cooling gas; an endothermic gas formed in cooling is circulated through the preheating furnace; and the carbonization gas is used as a gas fuel for the heating furnace after purification.
