The device for the milling of gearwheels contains a cutting edge section which consists of a high-speed tool steel, at least one film layer by which the cylindrical milling cutter (16) is coated, whereby the film has a consistency containing (Ti0.5Al0.5)(NyC(1y), whereby 0.2 is less than x which is less than 0.85, and 0.25 is less than y which is less than 1.0. A rotating unit is provided for the rotation of the cutting edge of the cylindrical milling cutter with a speed in the range of 80 to 40 meters per minute in order to carry out a dry milling.
