<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for opening/closing a bottom opening of a hopper for avoiding early wear of a system for sealing the bottom opening of the hopper. <P>SOLUTION: This device includes a drivable flap plate (12) and is for opening/closing the bottom opening (10) of the raw material hopper (11) disposed on a furnace port. The flap plate (12) movable from an open position in a state where the opening is opened to a closed position where the opening is closed, and movable in the reverse direction.
