Provided is a liquid crystal display device in which the area of dark lines generated when light is transmitted through pixel regions is small, and which has excellent light transmittance and excellent image quality. The liquid crystal display device comprises: two substrates, an electrode and an optical alignment film being sequentially formed on one surface of each of the substrates, and the one surfaces of the substrates being configured so as to face each other; a liquid crystal layer that contains a vertical alignment liquid crystal material and that is interposed between the two optical alignment films; a plurality of pixel regions that are formed on the substrates in a matrix shape in a surface direction of the substrates; at least two liquid crystal domains that are included in the pixel regions and that have different reference alignment directions specified by the two optical alignment films; and slits 21, 22, 23, 24 that are formed in regions, of one of the electrodes, that correspond to the liquid crystal domains and that extend parallel to the reference alignment directions. The slits 21, 22, 23, 24 are formed such that one end of each slit is lined up in a direction that intersects the reference alignment directions. |
