Provided are a projection optical device that prevents dust from flowing into the inside of a projection optics housing through a gap between a light transmission plate and the projection optics housing, and a projector equipped with the projection optical device. A projection optical device 5 including a dioptric system and a catoptric system is provided with a projection optics housing 51, and a light transmission plate 56 for transmitting projection light. The projection optics housing 51 is provided with a light transmission plate holding unit 55 (an opening 551 for allowing projection light to pass therethrough, and a holder 552 for holding the light transmission plate 56). A flexible intervening member 57 (first intervening member 571, and second intervening member 572) is placed between the light transmission plate 56 and the holder 552, dividing the holder 552 to cover the entire circumference thereof. The first intervening member 571 is placed on the holder 552 or on the sides 562 of the light transmission plate 56, and the second intervening member 572 is placed on the outer peripheral end surface 561 of the light transmission plate 56. The intervening member 57 is held on the light transmission plate holding unit 55 while being pressed on by the light transmission plate 56. |
