PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent which modulates appetite and/or body weight of an object.SOLUTION: There is provided use of an agent which increases the amount of macrophage inhibitory cytokine 1 (MIC-1). The MIC-1 enhancing agent is an agent which increases the amount of endogenous MIC-1 in an object, selected from the group consisting of MIC-1, an agent enhancing transcription or translation of MIC-1 genes, and an agent enhancing expression or activity of p53. The MIC-1 enhancing agent may be MIC-1.
