PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact zoom lens barrel in which front and rear lens groups can compactly be stored when the zoom lens barrel having >=2 movable lens groups is placed in the shortest state. SOLUTION: The zoom lens barrel has two front and rear lens groups guided linearly along the optical axis, follower pins formed on a support frame for the front and rear lens groups, and a cam ring which has cam grooves that the follower pins of the front and lens groups engage and is driven to rotate; and the cam grooves formed in the cam groove for the front-group lenses and rear-group lenses each have a zoom section wherein the focal length is varied and a storage section wherein each lens group is moved to a storage position behind the position in the zoom section along the optical axis. At least one of the storage section for the front-group lenses and the storage section for the rear-group lenses is so shaped as to release the optical-axial directional position of the corresponding follower pin.
