PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lash adjuster with a resting mechanism of an internal combustion engine compactly collected in the height direction. SOLUTION: This lash adjuster 10 has a cylindrical case 20 fixed to a cylinder head 90, a spring member 30 stored in the case 20, a cylindrical body 40 stored in the case 20 by sandwiching the spring member 30 in-between, a plunger 70 stored in the body 40, supporting a rocker arm 60 in an upper end part and vertically movable while slidingly contacting with an inner peripheral surface of the body 40, and a switching member 80 having a switching body 81 capable of switching a valve 50 opened and closed on the basis of operation of the rocker arm 60 to a driving state and a resting state. The switching body 81 communicates with both peripheral walls 26 and 42 of the body 40 and the case 20, and the switching member 80 is set so as to be stored in a height range of the body 40 and the plunger 70.
