PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing carboxylic acids by which carboxylic acids can readily be obtained at a low price in a short time and high yield. SOLUTION: The method for producing the carboxylic acids comprises carrying out extraction separation using wood vinegar M as a raw material. The extraction separation is preferably carried out by a distribution method using an adequate organic solvent, etc., The production method comprises carrying out, in turn, a salting-out process P-1 for adding sodium chloride to the wood vinegar M, a first solvent extraction process P-2 for feeding the resultant filtrate p1 to solvent extraction, a second solvent extraction process P-3 for changing a separated water layer p2 into strong acidity and feeding the water layer to solvent extraction, a drying process P-4 for drying the separated ether layer p3 and a distillation process P-5 for distilling the resultant carboxylic acids CA.
