A polysiloxane polyether copolymer with amino groups and/or quaternary ammonium groups in the polyether moiety; wherein the amino groups and/or quaternary ammonium groups are bonded directly to a carbon of the polyoxyalkylene chain via a methylene group; wherein the polysiloxane polyether copolymer is of the formula (1):wherein: m1 is from 0 to 500; m3 is from 0 to 30; m4 is from 0 to 60; and m5 is from 0 to 60; with the proviso that the sum of the indices m1, m3, m4, and m5 is at least equal to 1; andwherein: X independently of the others is a linear, cyclic, or branched, aliphatic or aromatic, saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 20 carbon atoms which optionally contains heteroatoms; X4 is alternatively X, X2, and/or X3; X2 is a polyether radical of the formula (1a): —CH2—CH(Y)—(Z1)a—O—(R1)n—(R2)o—(R3)p—R5  formula (1a);wherein: Y is either hydrogen or a monovalent organic radical having at least one carbon atom;Z1 is a divalent saturated or unsaturated organic radical;a is 0 or 1;n is 0 to 200;o is 1 to 1000;p is 0 to 200;with the proviso that the sum of the indices n+o+p is at least 3; andwherein: R1=—CH2CH2O—;R2=—CH2CH(CH3)O— or —CH(CH3)CH2O—;R3=—CH2CHRO— or —CHRCH2O—;R independently of the others is an alkyl group having 2-18 carbon atoms or an aromatic radical;R5 independently of the others=hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1-18 carbon atoms or a group RE—C(═O)—; andRE independently of the others is an alkyl group having 1-17 carbon atoms or an aromatic radical; and X3 is a polyether radical of the formula (1b): —CH2—CH(Y)—(Z1)a—O—(R1)n—(R2)o—(R3)p—(R4)q—R5  formula (1b);where: q is 1 to 50;R4=—CH2CH(CH2W)O— or —CH(CH2W)CH2O—;a, n, o, p, R1, R2, R3, R5, Y, Z1 have the meanings defined above; andwhere W is a group having nitrogen; with the proviso that m5 is at least 1 when X4 is not the same as X3.
