PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound seismic isolator which is rendered further compact on the whole, and characterized by safety, easy maintenance, etc. SOLUTION: The seismic isolator is formed of a lower shuttle race slide 1 fixed to an upper surface of a foundation structure, an upper shuttle race slide 2 fixed to a lower surface of a superstructure which is arranged above the foundation structure, a slider 3 movable along the lower and upper shuttle race slides 1, 2, and a horizontal elastic body for energizing the slider 3 to the center between the lower and upper shuttle race slides 1, 2. The horizontal elastic body is comprised of a plurality of elastic bodies 4 each having one end thereof engaged with the slider 3 and the other end thereof engaged with a lever 9 which is pivoted on the lower shuttle race slide 1, and a plurality of elastic bodies 5 each having one end thereof engaged with the slider 3 and the other end thereof engaged with a lever 14 which is pivoted on the upper shuttle race slide 2. According to the seismic isolator thus formed, the lower shuttle race slide 1 has a concave lower sliding surface in which its central portion is lowered, while the upper shuttle race slide 2 has a concave upper sliding surface in which its central portion is elevated.
