PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rolling member having improved rolling fatigue life in a severe environment such as a high contact-surface pressure environment; and to provide a ball bearing exhibiting a long service life even in a severe environment. SOLUTION: The outer ring 2, the inner ring 3 and the balls 4 of a deep groove ball bearing 1 are each formed from a steel which contains, by mass, 0.6-1.2% carbon, 0.15-1% silicon, 0.3-1.5% manganese, 0.1-2% chromium, and 0.1-2% vanadium and in which vanadium carbide particles each having a particle diameter of 50-300 nm are dispersed and the average grain diameter of old austenite crystal grains is≤12μm. Further, a nitrogen-enriched layer is formed in a surface layer part, and the content of residual austenite in the surface layer part is 20-40 vol.%. The rolling face 2A of the outer ring 2 and the rolling face 3A of the inner ring 3 each have a hardness of≥59 HRC. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
