PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coke capable of being produced by the conventional coke oven with low quality coal as raw material, and a method for producing the same.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing a coke comprising: a step where slurry is prepared by the mixing of powdery low quality coal and solvent oil; a step where moisture included in the slurry is evaporated; a step where a cake is obtained by the solid-liquid separation of the slurry; a step where modified coal is obtained by the heating of the cake; a step where the modified coal is subjected to compression molding; a step where the modified coal after the compression molding is blended with high quality coal; and a step where the blend is carbonized. As the blending amount of the modified coal in the blend, 20 mass% or lower is preferable. The process preferably has a step of sieving the carbonized matter derived from the modified coal and the carbonized matter derived from the high quality coal as well. The coke in this invention is the one obtained by the carbonization of the blend between the compression-molded body of modified coal using low quality coal as raw material and high quality coal.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
